What is the FDA?

FDA refers to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The FDA is part of the Department of Health and Human Services and is responsible for ensuring that food and materials used for food and beverage packaging and processing are safe for use by the public.

The FDA provides rules and guidelines on how materials should be made and how they should be used. Materials or products that meet FDA rules and guidelines are FDA compliant, though the use of terms such as “food safe” may also be used to describe products that are FDA compliant.

It is important to note that the FDA also deals with food additives and indirect food additives. Gloves are considered indirect food additives after they have come into contact with food items.

Our foodservice latex, nitrile, poly, and vinyl gloves state that “all components are FDA accepted for food contact” on the packaging.
